The singer said he was terrified by some of the things he encountered shortly after arriving in Surulere, including people he described as looking scary, cultists, and dead bodies on the streets.
Speaking during a recent livestream, Fireboy said the experience was particularly shocking because of the environment he was coming from, but he refused to give up on his ambition.
“I was so scared the first time I came to Lagos in 2016, in Surulere. People’s eyes were so red, and they looked scary. In two weeks, I saw someone run mad, dead bodies and cultists. Now, I also look like those scary people,” he said.
Despite his initial fears, Fireboy said he stayed in Lagos and gradually adapted to the city and its lifestyle as he continued pursuing his music career.
The singer has since established himself as one of the leading voices in Nigeria’s Afrobeats scene.
